My son works there. Seems to be a good place to work even through you are Away for your family and friends. A person has to do what he has to do for his/her family. I worked there 1997-1998. While there I started as a seafood processor, ended up working in the office as bookkeeper. It was a great life experience that in many ways made me the person I am today. Here are some short descriptions of various things people may want to know. 1) Landscape Its beautiful. The island is tundra covered and basically all mountainous. The sea is amazingly beautiful. 2) Weather. Big storms much of the time. Cloudy most of the time. Wind, rain and more wind and rain. 3) Little village. Akutan is a village of under 100 people. 4) One of the largest fish plants in the world. Over a 1000 people there in peak seasons. The bunkhouses are like big city apartment complexes. 5) Work conditions Fish factory work. Much of it easy enough for people over 50 years old. Hardest part is constant motion and standing 12 hours a day. Work in cold wet fish smelly environment. 6) One bar in town. The Roadhouse. 7) One road in town, and only one truck...owned by Trident. 8) Wildlife Eagles everywhere. Ravens also. 9) Interesting people Immigrants, homeless druggies, college students, smart people who like not-typical work lifestyle. People in village are a mix of Russian and Native American. 10) 1700 miles from Seattle. I truly loved the place. As a Service Engineer I like coming up here to work on our robotic palletizers once in awhile, but three times since June is enough already LoL Not a job for a family man. Management needs to be on meds.
